Largest Buddhist Temple in North America Celebrates 30th Anniversary With a Cultural & Arts Festival

November 20 00:40 2018

HACIENDA HEIGHTS, CA – November 19, 2018 – After an entire year of special events to mark the founding of the largest Buddhist temple in the United States, the day of Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple’s 30th anniversary is about to dawn.

To mark this momentous occasion, Hsi Lai Temple will hold a “Cultural & Arts Festival” on Sunday, November 25, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm. A similar festival marked the beginning of the year-long festivities at the temple, drawing in more than 3000 people. The upcoming cultural festival promises to attract even more people with more events, activities, food, and fun.

From 11:30am to 2:00pm, State Senator Lingling Chang and Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn will be among the special guests at the anniversary celebration. They, along with everyone who attends, will be able to enjoy a variety of activities and food that will not only provide a fun experience for the entire family, but will also demonstrate the values of the temple – and best of all, all activities and performances are free!

Visitors will be able to experience delicious Chinese vegetarian finger foods, and participate in numerous activities including art engraving, a tea and meditation ceremony, and the opportunity to practice Chinese “one-stroke” calligraphy.

In addition to the different activities, the temple will hold a beautiful photography exhibition of Buddhist sculptures, along with a variety of cultural performances, and videos showcasing the history of Hsi Lai Temple.

For a list of all the activities and times for the festival, visit the temple’s website:  http://www.hsilai.org/en/events/30Annual.php

In addition to the festival, visitors will also be able to revel in the art and beauty of the temple, something which can otherwise only be seen in China and Taiwan. The temple was designed after the architecture of the Chinese Ming (1268–1644 CE) and Qing (1644–1911 CE) dynasties, and is considered faithful to the traditional style of buildings, gardens and statuary of ancient Chinese monasteries.
