Prayer For World Peace at Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple

January 02 18:36 2019

HACIENDA HEIGHTS, CA – Jan 2, 2019 – With the New Year before us, a fresh sense of vitality and community has come to the Los Angeles area. In the midst of this renewal, Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple would like to invite you to take part in our annual Prayer for World Peace that will be held in the Main Shrine from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 5, 2019.

This ceremony brings together religious leaders from several major traditions, including Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism. Together we will offer our prayers and set our intention towards making 2019 a year which upholds community, diversity, and universal human dignity in a spirit of harmony and peace. Through this ceremony we will all be able to appreciate the strengths that come from our differences and the unity which comes from our similarities.

The ceremony will be interspersed with exciting cultural performances from Catholic, Hindu, Muslim, and Native American traditions among many others, celebrating the diversity of our community. Followers of all traditions are warmly welcomed and we hope this opportunity will allow us to share all of our unique beliefs and viewpoints with each other.

Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple will continue to hold cultural events throughout the New Year with Buddha’s Light Youth Symphony Orchestra presenting a New Year’s Concert on January 1, 2019. The temple will also be holding Southern California’s largest Chinese New Year’s Celebration, from February 5 to 19, with our main celebration and festival of traditional Chinese cultural performances on February 5, 2019.

In addition to the special events, visitors will also be able to revel in the art and beauty of the temple, something which can otherwise only be seen in China and Taiwan. The temple was designed after the architecture of the Chinese Ming (1268–1644 CE) and Qing (1644–1911 CE) dynasties, and is considered faithful to the traditional style of buildings, gardens and statuary of ancient Chinese monasteries.
