Bloodworks Northwest Returns to Georgetown Morgue Haunted House to Draw New Blood Donors

Bloodworks to hold blood drives outside Haunted House to support local hospitals and offer a terrifyingly-good donor perk

Bloodworks Northwest will once again partner with the Georgetown Morgue Haunted House and Star101.5 for the Not-So-Scary Blood Drives to save lives during the month of October. The partnership picks up where it left off in 2019, with the blood drives resulting in over 350 registered donors. Of those registered, 238 donated blood for the first time.

The pandemic halted the use of bloodmobiles in the following year. Now that bloodmobiles have been reintroduced to support blood drives in local communities, The Georgetown Morgue hopes to continue the life saving Halloween event by offering a unique donor incentive.

Bloodworks will park a bloodmobile outside The Georgetown Morgue on October 13 & 27 (6 – 11:30pm). Anyone who signs up to give blood will be treated to skip to the front of the line with up to 3 friends. As Seattle’s Premier Haunted Attraction, The Georgetown Morgue’s popularity draws massive crowds with lines of up to 2 hours or longer.

“We love to give back to our community. That is how the Haunted House started in the first place. We enjoy working with Bloodworks Northwest, and we also do a fantastic food drive during the Halloween season,” said Deanna Kolling, Seattlehaunts Owner & CFO. “It feels good to help out our community during this time of year when we need to restock blood and food supplies.”

“Giving blood isn’t scary, but needing blood during a shortage might be,” said Ron Lim, Bloodworks Marketing Manager. “Where is there a better place to overcome any fears one might have about donating blood than at a Haunted House? The blood donation itself only takes about 10 minutes and the whole process all the way to getting juice and cookies at the end is less than an hour. Our community needs more new donors to support local hospitals and we are extremely excited to be partnering with The Georgetown Morgue and Star101.5 to spread the word.”

Blood supplies have dropped to critically low levels, with only 52% of the donors needed in the next seven days amid high patient usage in Pacific Northwest hospitals. Type O and Platelets levels are currently hovering between critical and emergency levels.

“If there are two things that scream Seattle it’s the Georgetown Morgue and STAR 101.5. This is a special partnership that continues and when we add Bloodworks Northwest to the equation, it’s a perfect chance to have fun, make memories, and a difference in our community at the same time. We love being a part of it,” said Jeff Connell KPLZ/STAR 101.5 Program Director & Mid Day On-Air Personality.

It takes 1,000 donations daily to meet the local needs of trauma, cancer, and surgery patients. Bloodworks reminds people that donors can donate blood ten days after COVID symptoms resolve and that COVID and Flu vaccinations do not affect your ability to donate blood. It takes about an hour to give blood from check-in to post-donation cookie. Appointments and masks are required. Information about who can donate and where is available at www.bloodworksnw.org.
