Sven Thieme, Executive Chairman of the Ohlthaver & List Group, was recently selected as Top International Executive Chairman of the Year for 2023 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to the industry.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, other affiliations, and contributions to their communities. All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With more than two decades of industry experience, Sven has certainly proven himself as a seasoned and trusted chairman in the financial and business management profession. Currently, Sven is the chairman of Ohlthaver & List, the largest private company in Namibia. Sven was also former Chairman of Namibian Broadcasting Corp and former Chairman at Windhoek Country Club Resort.
In 2002, Sven stepped into the role of CEO at Ohlthaver & List following the unfortunate passing of his grandfather and the son of the company’s esteemed founder, Werner List. With an impressive tenure spanning over two decades, he has been an invaluable asset to the company since 1998. From 2001 to 2002, he held the esteemed position of general manager, showcasing his exceptional leadership skills and strategic prowess. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential individuals from Namibia and a pioneer. Recently, he has taken an active role in building the first hydrogen pilot plant in Africa.
His impressive repertoire of prior roles includes having served as an auditor for Deloitte & Touche in Luxembourg from 1994 to 1998. He was responsible for establishing the Development Bank of Namibia in 2004. In 2010, Thieme served on the Supervisory Board of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, a public broadcaster. He presided over the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 2014 and retired in 2021. He has also sat on the board of Namibia Breweries, which was acquired by Heineken.
Before embarking on his career path, Thieme completed his education at Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek and obtained his German Abitur in 1987. In 1991, he successfully completed his studies as an auditor at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Mr. Thieme also received an honorary doctorate degree from the university for his outstanding contributions to the growth of the economy.
Throughout his illustrious career, Sven has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized worldwide for his accomplishments. This year, he will be considered for an exclusive interview on TIP Radio and to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. He will be honored at IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the iconic NYC Plaza Hotel this December for his selection as Top International Executive Chairman of the Year. Thieme was honored with the Most Distinguished Order of Namibia: First Class on Heroes’ Day in 2014.
