Karen Schuman, Artist and Gallerist, was recently selected as Top Award-Winning Artist for 2024 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to the industry.
Inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself; only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations, and contributions to their communities. All Honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With more than two and a half decades of experience in the industry, Ms. Schuman has certainly proven herself as an expert in her field. As a passionate leader in the art field, Karen started her journey as the founder and director of the Dancing Krow Studio. She first became involved in studio and gallery ownership after she and her husband rented vacant storefronts in a struggling area of their community in Oak Park, Illinois. She ran her business, The Art House, as a nonprofit organization.
Karen’s area of expertise includes, but are not limited to her artwork, which is composed of batik-dyed fabric, quilting, beadwork, and embroidery. Through her art, she aims to reach others and teach them how to live in total harmony with the Earth and nature. Karen’s shamanic practice, which is reflected in her artwork, is about bringing darkness into light. Among her accomplishments, she won first and second place at the Art League in her community of Oak Park.
Before embarking on her career path, Ms. Schuman completed coursework in oil painting at the Edward Cathony Studio of Art. She also completed coursework in the secretarial training program at Robert Morris University, after which she obtained experience as a personal assistant at the Garfield-Linn Advertising Agency. Ms. Schuman also contributed to the American Art Collector Book.
Throughout her illustrious career, Ms. Schuman has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized worldwide for her accomplishments. This year she will be considered for the Empowered Woman Award and to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. She will be honored at IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville next December for her selection as Top Award-Winning Artist of the Year.
In addition to her successful career, Ms. Schuman as a part of her commitment to community outreach and fostering creativity, is a longtime member of the Oak Park Arts District and has helped host art workshops for community members experiencing homelessness.

Looking back, Karen attributes her success to her perseverance, work ethic, and the mentors she has had along the way. When not working, she enjoys gardening, walking, hiking and traveling. In the future, she hopes to inspire and influence those getting into the field.
