On November 3, Condé Nast Traveler China announced the Gold List in Macao. This iconic event not just marks the 10th anniversary of Condé Nast Traveler China, but shows that it will expand out of the Chinese mainland for the first time into Macao, a Chinese city which perfectly blends international and local features. Condé Nast Traveler China has invited guests such as global industry heavyweights and influential artists/celebrities to this global tourism and recreation hub, an inspiring city known for recreation, pioneering fashions, and luxurious experiences, to inspire them with some interesting creative which fuses Chinese and foreign cultural elements.
With the magazine’s insights into the tourism industry, the Gold List has become known as the “Academy Awards” in the global tourism industry since it was first announced in 2014. Nowadays, it has become a golden standard widely accepted by Chinese tourists. It always aims to offer them excellent choices with the highest quality of services in the industry. In 2018, Condé Nast Traveler China officially set up the Gold List Jury by inviting several first-class tourism experts who seek high-quality lifestyles, understand and enjoy premium ways of travelling and have unique thoughts to identify the best hotels, airlines, cruise ship companies and destinations together with its editorial department. The Gold List is intended to enable inspiring travels.
On the morning of November 3, the chief editors and representatives of the US, UK, Italian, Spanish, Middle East and Indian versions of Condé Nast Traveler met some executives of Sands China Ltd. and representatives of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) at the Londoner Macao. As a landmark in the city, this brand-new resort is the third highly exotic themed-hotel integrated resort opened by Sands China Ltd. Cotai has therefore been turned from a piece of deserted, reclaimed land into one of the world-leading tourist attractions. Here, you may explore the deep connections between travels and lifestyles in dimensions such as lifestyle and sustainability with others and explain what you think is the essence of travels, thus inspiring one another and providing the tourism industry with professional ideas from various perspectives.
Besides brainstorming, this event features a pop-up newsstand for the magazine’s 10th anniversary, which was designed with some local cultural elements. It provides every visitor with a copy of the Condé Nast Traveler magazine and a Limited Edition newspaper co-published by it and Sands China for free, in order to give them a unique travel guide while conveying them Macao’s charm and fun.
On the evening of the same day, Condé Nast Traveler officially kicked off the Gold List awarding ceremony. The jury members, representatives of the award winners, industry heavyweights and celebrities met to witness the announcement of the new golden standards for Chinese travelers. Chinese actors/actresses Duan Yihong, Celina Jade, Bowie Lam, Isabella Leong, Connor Leong and Wang Jiachen, singers Momo Wu and Lin Mo, and other friends of the magazine who love traveling were also present at the event. Shawn Ong, Content Director, Condé Nast Traveler China, Sands China executives and MGTO representatives made speeches.
“Condé Nast Traveler China was founded a decade ago, and first released the Gold List in the following year,” said Ong. “The hotels on this list have become increasingly appealing over the past decade. With the Gold List 2023, we are showing respect for all the people in the hotel industry, including all colleagues present, because of your dedication. Great hotels are now helping us gain a better understanding of our cities and experience urban lifestyles. My gratitude goes to my friends at Sands China, as the Londoner Macao has made the hotel itself a fascinating space where one feels at home. I also want to thank Macao, a cultural melting pot, for continuously bringing us nice surprises like never before and allowing us to discover the greatness of travels.”
Dr. Wilfred Wong, President of Sands China Ltd., said, “We are delighted to join hands with Condé Nast Traveler China on a wide range of activities, including hosting the prestigious Gold List Ceremony. Condé Nast Traveler China embodies a perfect fusion of leisure and sophistication, and spontaneity and tradition, which echoes Sands Lifestyle’s mission to enrich travel experiences and add a joyful spark to life. Sands China has always been committed to providing our guests with a wealth of travel and holiday experiences, and creating exceptional journeys tailored to the aspirational desires of each guest. This collaboration also demonstrates Sands China’s firm support for the Macao Government Tourism Office’s tourism+ cross-sector integration initiative, and will help further consolidate and enhance the visibility and influence of Macao as a diversified travel destination through domestic and international media coverage.”
Condé Nast Traveler China then announced awards like the TOP10 hotels in China 2023, the Best Breakthrough Award and the Responsible Travel Award, which were received by the representatives of relevant hotels, airlines and cruise ship companies. The ceremony climaxed and concluded with the songs Ubiquitous and No Confusion by Momo Wu.
In 2023, global travelers have once again started exploring different destinations. It is within this context that Condé Nast Traveler China is celebrating its 10th anniversary. For the next decade, Condé Nast Traveler China will become even more steadfast in exploring the essence of travels with the rest of the world and continue offering a Gold List which is more professional and internationalized with high quality. It wants to provide global travelers with ways of taking inspiring travels and broadening their horizons, thus making them love travels forever.
